HOW IS YOUR BRAIN?
1. You’re having short attention span, decreased focus, and lack concentration
Attention span is the amount of time spent concentrating on a task before becoming distracted. Distractibility occurs when attention is uncontrollably diverted to another activity or sensation, hence the lack of concentration. The health of your brain is the prerequisite for you to be able to work with concentration- the lack of it is a sign of underperforming brain.
2. You’re feeling stressed more often
Stress becomes dangerous when it lasts for a longer period of time. The stress hormone cortisol is constantly released and can lead to cell damage in the brain and thus to many other problems.
3. You’re experiencing sleep apnea and memory loss
Memory loss does not only happen among the elderly- it can happen at any age or for any number of reasons. Conditions other than Alzheimer’s disease that can cause memory loss and cognitive decline include sleep apnea. It is a treatable disorder in which a person briefly stops breathing frequently through the night. As the oxygen distribution to the brain is interrupted several hundred times during the night, it affects the spatial navigational memory, which makes it difficult to remember important information. Did you just forget there you put the keys after locking the doors the previous night? If so, that is a sign of brain decline.
4. You’re having brain fogs
Do you lose your train of thought, or find it challenging to hold a conversation? Do you keep misplacing things and losing the ability to retrace steps? Then you must be experiencing brain fogs. Brain fog literally feels that the mind has become cloudy when you to think, making you feel spaced out and mentally slow. It makes it difficult to do simple tasks such as making a grocery list. Thinking quickly and communicating verbally and written, can be difficult to the point of frustration when brain fog sets in. A variety of factors, from a person’s lifestyle and daily habits to cognitive decline, can result in a brain fog.
5. You’re having hearing loss
Age may cause changes in the central auditory pathways that analyze and process sound. To compensate for these changes, other parts of the brain, especially those involved in thinking and memory, pitch in to help with hearing and speech processing, says Sandra Gordon-Salant, PhD, professor and director of the doctoral program in clinical audiology in the department of hearing and speech sciences at the University of Maryland. As the brain is forced to redirect thinking and memory resources to help with hearing, those resources may diminish.
6. You’re undergoing emotional imbalance more often
Cognitive problems manifest in a variety of ways, with emotional imbalance being one of the most common symptoms. Cognitive impairment is frustrating, and those suffering from it often react with emotional outbursts, making it difficult for friends and family to help. Others may push people away in an attempt to isolate themselves, only making the problem worse. In some people, the effect is the total opposite- they become totally apathetic and uninterested.
7. You find yourself losing coordination and balance
Degeneration of neurons may cause balance problems and can make you feel dizzy, as if the room is spinning, unsteady, or lightheaded. You might feel as if the room is spinning or you’re going to fall down.
8. You are experiencing physical and cognitive decline due to dependence on medicine and supplements
Some medicines, and combinations of medicines, can affect a person’s thinking and the way the brain works. For example, certain drugs can cause confusion, memory loss, hallucinations, and delusions in older adults. Medicines can also interact with food, dietary supplements, alcohol, and other substances. Some of these interactions can affect how your brain functions.
